Boeing rethinking outsourced supply chain

Excellent brief article that puts a focus on the challenges of managing outsourced manufacturing for the new Boeing 787. As Airbus is beginning to consider shifting production to outsourced partners Boeing is living lessons learned that is just might be harder to manage things they don't do then what they control and do / manufacturer.

We don't think this means Boeing will not outsource but will likely utilize new tools, approaches, measurement to make sure commitments can be made !

But if the import boom is actually creating only a facade of growth, that's a different story. This lends more credence to corporate leaders such as CEO John Chambers of Cisco Systems who have publicly worried about U.S. competitiveness--and who, perhaps coincidentally, have been the ones leading the charge offshore.”

Now we are finally getting the proper statistics that show the NEED to use techniques such as postponment to control the supply chain, intellectual property and customer service
